Great Boost for My Morning Runs
The GRIO Hydration Running Vest is a practical, budget-friendly entry into the world of hydration packs, particularly well-suited for those starting out with longer trail runs, marathons, or hiking. Its most notable feature is the included 1.5L water bladder, which simplifies your purchase by providing a complete hydration system right out of the box. The vest is crafted from lightweight, breathable mesh, designed to minimize bulk and keep you cool during high-intensity training. To ensure a stable ride, the vest utilizes adjustable chest straps that help create a “bounce-free” fit, preventing the water weight from shifting uncomfortably as you move. It’s built with smart storage in mind, featuring a dedicated zippered phone pocket and easy-access compartments for energy gels, allowing you to reach your essentials without breaking your stride. Additionally, the integrated reflective strips are a key safety feature for visibility during early morning or late-night sessions.

lightweight
so far I love the design. It’s lightweight. It holds 2 L but I haven’t got a chance to fill it up yet and today I’m gonna do that and take a 200 mile motorcycle ride to a place called Apache Junction. I didn’t notice a spot to thread the straw hole through on the backpack like Camelback and other ones have.

Good minimal backpack. Water bladder could be better.
I like to go hiking and fishing so I have another backpack with a hydration unit. However, taking a ~15L backpack is not ideal for a lot of casual hikes when I just need to carry some water. I also would rather not carry a water bottle in my hand if I’m hiking or trail running. The vest is the perfect minimalist backpack for that because it won’t be a mostly empty pack flopping around. It carries enough water to be out for a couple hours. There is some storage available- the main area is split into two compartments, one for the bladder and another for whatever else you may want (size dependent on how much water you pack). The backpack material does have some stretch if you do need to load it up. There are also two pockets on the front, one zippered and one open pocket with elastic cord. The elastic pocket is large enough to hold a phone. The zipper pocket may/may not fit your phone depending on how large it is.The vest itself is very lightweight. All body contact material is mesh and breathable. There are multiple reflectors on the front/back for lowlight situations. There is a lot of elastic cord to hang things on (I am not a fan of that though as it’s just more things to get hung up on). There is also a whistle attached to one of them if you run into a situation that requires it.The water bladder is acceptable. I do like the wide opening for refilling and the ability to remove the tubing (this helps with cleaning and drying). The bite valve can slide open to help with more water flow. The water will have some rubber taste, but that’s something you have to live with for these types of things. The bladder material is thin. The thin bladder material does not help with drying though as it tends to collapse on itself and stick together resulting in no airflow, and thus, no drying. Also, since the refill opening is in the middle of the bladder rather than on an edge, it is very difficult to empty it completely of water. This is where a bladder with the opening at the top works better- you can dump out all water, clean it more efficiently, and dry it a lot quicker. It isn’t a dealbreaker, just an annoyance… you should be able to swap in a different bladder if wanted.Overall, this is a good minimal backpack for water for around $20.
